My little sister came home today. She is so sweet. SHe brought me a present!! Its a book to plan my wedding. lol. I think its a kiss up gift so I don't pick ugly bridesmaid dresses. HAHAHAHA. Just kidding. Its cuz she is going to be my maid of honor and wants to be the best maid of honor ever! I am really lucky to have such a great little sister!
She did have alterior motives to coming home today. She had to revise a paper for her writing class at school. Her writing is atrocious. I do not understand. No, actually, I do. I went to Grafton High School and had the best teachers ever. I have really good grammar and writing skills (when I actually care enough to use them). I can dissect a sentence and rip out passive voice and make sure my direct objects are placed perfectly and all that jazz. I learned all that crap from a young age. Something happened to Grafton Schools after I graduated. I guess its partly because of the ed reform, the MCAS tests, the block scheduling. Somewhere in all that mess, they forgot that it is important to actually teach grammar to the students, and my sister is a great example. She took all the hard classes. She did really well. And she is at Boston University, the same school I attended. But she cannot tell when her sentence does not have a verb. She does not know the difference between effect and affect. Her writing makes me cringe!!!!!! And its really not her fault. She tries. She labors. Its just that no one ever bothered to teach her to write. Sooooo, I am designated to edit her papers. A 5 page paper took us 2.5 hours today to edit. I thought she was going to cry. I ripped apart every single sentence. I just wanna say thanks to the Grafton School Department for doing such a shitty job of educating their students. Its pretty sad when someone as bright and hardworking as my little sis struggles because of what they failed to teach!!!
